It’s not methanol. It’s mostly ethanol. It’s called “methylated” because it used to contain methanol. The methanol was added to make it undrinkable, but it didn’t work – people still drank it. So it now contains Bitrex instead to make it undrinkable – the same stuff that people put on their fingernails to break the fingernail-biting habit.
It’s effective as a sanitiser at concentrations above 70%
